2-factor authentication using Outlook and Exchange mail servers
To Computer Science Users,
I am sure that you are aware that 2-factor authentication sign up for email is on the way and could be in place before the end of this calendar year. You may also be aware that if you use an unmanaged Windows desktop and you use Outlook connected to the University Exchange server for your email then you need to have a piece of software called GlobalProtect installed to be able to authenticate your email connection. See the "Quick Setup Guide: 2-factor authentication (pdf)" on http://www.itservices.manchester.ac.uk/cybersecurity/programme/ .
Can you please let me know if you are using an unmanaged windows desktop and Outlook/Exchange for your email and I will arrange for GlobalProtect to be installed (alternatively, if you have administrative access you may want to install this software yourself, see http://www.itservices.manchester.ac.uk/cybersecurity/programme/2step/gpvpn/).
If you use IMAP to connect to the University mail service an announcement will be made about "2-factor authentication for IMAP users" in the near future.
