The University of Manchester, in partnership with the IET, BCS and IBM, is delighted to announce Professor Donald E. Knuth as 2011 7th annual Turing Lecture speaker.
Don Knuth, Computer Scientist and Professor Emeritus of the Art of Computer Programming at Stanford University, USA, will be engaged with the audience in an question and answer session titled 'An Evening with Donald Knuth - All Questions Answered'.
Synopsis
The 2011 BCS/IET Turing Lecture did not follow the usual form of a talk followed by a question and answer session. Instead, Don made a short introduction and then answered questions about any subject. He warned in advance that "The audience were aware that the answers would not be his best shot, though those outside the field of The Art of Programming may have somewhat less credibility than a Wikipedia article."
Donald also discussed the significance of the number 885205232, which some speculate may turn out to be surreal.
