Google Women's Talk

Speaker: Sylvie Dieckmann

Date: Oct 19th 2007
Time: 11:30pm - 12:30pm.

Location: Atlas 1, School of Computer Science, Kilburn Building

Google engineer Sylvie Dieckmann will talk about how she's leveraged her education in Computer Science to build a career in industry. Sylvie holds a CS Diploma from the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany. In 1995 she moved to the US to start a PhD program at the CS Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara. At the height of the internet bubble she left campus for industry and, after a small detour, joined Google in 2001 as a Software Engineer. Aside from several years in the Mountain View HQ she also worked on engineering projects in Google's Munich and Krakow Offices. Her projects include among others contributions to Web Search for Mobile, Google Checkout, Google Search Appliance and an internal bug tracking system.

Sylive will talk informally about her career, and will then be happy to answer any questions about what she's done, and what she's observed of careers in computer science.  This is an opportunity for women and men with an interest in applying their computer science qualifications to challenges in industry, to come together, discover more about technical careers, and to find out what it's like to work at Google.
