Introduction to Linux by Dr. John Latham

Location: The School of Computer Science. Kilburn Building, Oxford Road, Manchester.

 

The School of Computer Science and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust are working in partnership to offer secondary school teachers from across Greater Manchester the opportunity to gain a unique insight into Linux, and open source operating system that is becoming increasing popular as an alternative to Microsoft Windows.

The goal of the workshop is to provide attendees with an overview of the skills required to start harnessing the power of what has become the fastest growing operating system in the world.

The day will be broken down into a number of coursework activities that introduce the fundamentals of the Linux command line, and supported by learning resources to aid the delivery of the activities to secondary school students.

The workshop is led by Dr. John Latham, a java programming specialist and Linux user and enthusiast.

 

The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) is a leading body for secondary education.

The Trust seeks to give more young people access to a good secondary education by building networks, sharing practice and supporting schools.
