National Science and Engineering Week
As part of the University’s commitment to Widening Participation, the School of Computer Science ran workshops as part of National Science and Engineering Week 2007. Funded by the Department of Trade and Industry, NSEW is an opportunity for people of all ages to take part in a huge range of exciting events covering all areas of science, engineering and technology. NCEW provides the School of Computer Science with the opportunity to enthuse and inspire local school children about computer science and enables the pupils to come face to face with leading academics and cutting-edge research.
The School ran two sessions. In the first, led by Dr Adrian Albin Clark, the pupils were introduced to Robotics and faced with the challenge of making robots dance. Pupils from Fearns Community High School danced their way to winning the prize for the best project in this session, and were rewarded with suitably musical HMV vouchers! In the second session, Dr John Latham and Margahan Begum set pupils the task of developing a snake game with Cameron Brown taking the top prize.
