Reunite Project Featured on BBC Radio Manchester

Date: 5th January 2012

Research led by Dr. Gavin Brown from the School’s Machine Learning and Optimisation group has made the news in a radio interview with BBC Radio Manchester’s Allan Beswick.

Gavin was invited in to the studio to discuss the REUNITE project. The project focuses on the use of Smartphone technology and Artificial Intelligence technology to help aid organisations reunite those separated by war and natural disaster. The technology could eliminate excess administration work faced by aid workers by allowing them to record interviews with displaced persons using a Smartphone, which would then be transmitted to and transcribed by a group of trusted individuals. Pattern matching technology can then be used to match up individuals so that aid workers can be notified of matches between people in their care.

The interview is available through the BBC listen again service (at 2hrs18 minutes in) here.
