    Sharpen your software engineering skills @gsoc this summer

    Would you like to spend this summer writing code, learning about open source development while earning a stipend for your trouble? This is what Google Summer of Code (@gsoc) offers every year, and the mentoring organisations involved have been announced today (27th Feb) and include ARM, Apache.... 

    Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is an online, international program designed to encourage university student participation in open source software development. Students work on a three month programming project with an open source organisation during their break from university, and are paid 

    Since its inception in 2005, the program has brought together 12,000+ student participants and 11,000 mentors from over 127 countries worldwide. Google Summer of Code has produced 30,000,000+ lines of code for 568 open source organisations.

    Key dates in the timeline for applications are shown below:

    Monday 27th Feb to 20th March 2017  Potential student participants discuss application ideas with mentoring organisations
    20th March 2017, 16:00 UTC Student application period opens
    3rd April 2017 16:00 UTC Student application deadline

    Accepted students work with a mentor and become a part of the open source community. Many become lifetime open source developers.be
