Yesterday (Thursday 31st May) Darren Lunn attended the Google Developer Day 2007. The event brought together Web developers to discuss Googles latest Web technologies and APIs. The event was also held simultaneously in nine countries and broadcast live over the Web.[image src="http://18.104.22.168/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/google-goo.png" alt="" class="right"]
Google demonstrated a large number of their APIs, including Google Maps and the Google Mapplets Extension, Google Data and Google Gadgets. However, of most interest was Google Gears. This is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run off-line. By inserting a database in the information stream, user updates to content can be captured and then synchronised with the online version.
The event was targeted at Web developers who wish to create rich interactive Websites. However, during lunch and coffee breaks when delegates were mingling, there was a lot of interest shown about the work conducted at the HCW Lab.
