Free De Morgan structures
The talk will discuss how to freely add
self-adjoint contravariant involutions, cartesian products or sums,
and a non-trivial De Morgan structure, to a monoid.
These constructions are more interesting (and less syntactic)
in the case of monoids than that of categories.
The combinatorial representation of these free objects
can be given explicitly, without recourse to quotients;
something that appears to be unknown in the literature.
There will be a preamble reviewing the concept of adjunction for monoids,
and the special properties it acquires in this particular situation.
If time permits, there will be a postamble introducing
a non-trivial monoid with boolean-like behaviour,
and discussing its relevance for quantum mechanics.
