Research Profile
RAE 2008 Manchester Top Rated for Research
Once again the School of Computer Science has been rated amongst the top UK departments for the quality of its research. The 2008 RAE results, released this morning, place Manchester in 5th and 2nd place for research quality and research power (quality x volume), reaffirming our position as a world class centre of excellence in computing.
The widely used ‘research power’ measure, which takes into account both quality and size of research contributions, place Computer Science at Manchester second in the UK and first in England.
This outstanding performance is further evidence of Manchester's significant contributions to the development of the discipline. These research contributions inform our curriculum and teaching at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level and consequently the results represent great news for both staff and students alike.
