Ashish Sehra is currently studying the MSc Advanced Computer Science Programme. He graduated from Manipal, India, in 2007 with a degree in Computer Science & Engineering.
"I worked in an IT startup in Bangalore, India, developing softwares for mobile phones. After working for a couple of years I realised that the demand for skills in the market was changing rapidly and was at an advanced level as compared to what I received in my undergraduate course. Thats when I decided that I need to pursue an advanced degree in Computer Science that helps me bridge the gap between the broad theories we studied at undergraduate level and the in-depth knowledge in software engineering that is required as a software professional.
"The School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester offered uniquely structured “Pathways” that provided me with exactly what I needed. I was able to choose a focussed stream of Software Engineering along with Advanced Web Technologies as an elective. This has allowed me to study the latest engineering trends such as Agile Software Development and, during my dissertation, I will be applying them while I work with popular technologies such as Ruby on Rails, iOS and Android. What has made life at University even better for me is the fact that my supervisor and lecturers are easily approachable and ready to share ideas and provide expert opinions.
"The exposure that you get at the school is amazing. As a student you get plenty of opportunities to attend seminars and workshops from guest lecturers from global universities and industry professionals keeping you up to date with latest technologies and industry trends. You are also exposed to fellow students from different parts of the world who share their experiences and knowledge with you giving you a global outlook. I believe I have gained a lot from the School and the course here which will help me greatly in building my career."
