• EDBT Summer School 2017: Adding Value to Data

    Published: Tuesday, 23 May 2017

A call for participation in the EDBT Summer School 2017: Adding Value to Data

This may be of interest to PGR students in the School, particularly those whose research is data-centric or data-driven. The whole event is an outreach aspect of the VADA project, an EPSRC-funded 5-year programme grant that is a collaboration between the schools of computer science in Oxford, Manchester and Edinburgh. The call is attached below. There may be funding support from the organizers, to whom all questions should be addressed. The deadline is this coming week, so, please, hurry if you wish to take part.

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO: MAY 31st, 2017

The EDBT Summer School brings together leading researchers recognized
as experts in their fields and provides participants the opportunity to
gain deeper insight into current research trends in the database area.

In 2017, the theme of the school will be 'Adding Value to Data'. The
scientific topics will cover principles and solutions for adding value
to data, that is, for supporting users in discovering, extracting,
integrating, accessing and interpreting the data of relevance to their
questions, while taking into account the role of the crowd and the impact
of dirty data as well as the adoption of responsible data management and
analysis processes. The school will be organized around 7 main themes,
    listed below.

The 2017 summer school follows the successful structure of previous EDBT
schools: stimulating lectures by leading researchers in the field (two for
each main theme), group work on assignment, and a lively scientific and
    social program.

We invite advanced graduate students, postdocs, and other academic and
industrial researchers interested in an intensive study of the state-of-
the-art in adding value to data to participate in the summer school. A
limited number of grants are offered by the EDBT association and by our
sponsor Neo Technology. Application and registration details can be found
    in the school website.

Successful summer school participants will receive on request a
certificate about course activity equivalent to 2 ETCS. Some Universities
may accept such certificates towards the coursework required for PhD
programs (inquire with your university/PhD School/Advisor).
