Entry requirements

We welcome applications from students with a First or Upper Second Class UK Honours degree or international equivalent in a relevant science or engineering discipline, or a first degree with an additional UK Masters degree at Distiction level or international equivalent.

Relevant Degree Subjects

The most common first degree is Computer Science, but these are not the only first degrees we seek. Others include:

There is a strong mathematical component to much of our research, and a good degree in mathematics is relevant to most of our research activities.

A good background in Physics, particularly theoretical physics or computational physics, is relevant to research carried out by several members of academic staff.

There are strong engineering activities taking place across the school, particularly in the Advanced Processor Technologies Group, and the Nano Engineering & Storage Technology Group.

A key theme across the School is the interdisciplinary nature of much of the research being carried out. For example, there are strong interactions between Biology, Medicine and Computer Science. Therefore other backgrounds are sometimes relevant, particularly when some experience of computation has also been acquired.
