"CSSoc is a student run committee which arranges events and socials tailored for the Computer Science department in the University of Manchester. I'm currently chairing it and making sure everything goes ahead without a hitch."
CSSoc, short for Computer Science Society, seeks to represent and provide events and socials for students of the School of Computer Science, whilst also avoiding the traditional stereotypes associated with computer science. This is done through holding competitions and quiz nights (past prizes have included iPods, hundreds of pounds of Amazon vouchers), a no expenses spared ball (previous venues including the Hilton and the Palace Hotel) and even more events planned for the coming year! More than that, if anyone wants to get involved and get some support running their own event they think would be of interest to our members, we are more than happy to give the support you need, be it through organisation or running it. Although we are focussed on computer science students, everybody is welcome to join in any events.
We have built up some great links with graduate employers over the last few years and actively encourage informal networking sessions for those interested in careers in the computer science industry. Our current sponsor is Credit Suisse, who we manage events on campus for. We also manage the merchandise for the School of Computer Science. We're also here for those who just want to have a good time, maybe find out about some new things and generally just enjoy university life!
