    Money Skills

The Student Support and Advice team have linked up with financial education specialists, Blackbullion, to deliver an online, interactive resource to all staff and students at the University of Manchester. For further details, see:

    Unit Surveys

The Unit Survey gives you the chance to tell us what you think about your course units, and for Semester 1 courses it runs from today until Fri 23 Dec. Please take a moment to give us your feedback – you can use Blackboard or download the app (iOS | Android). We take your views seriously, we react, and every year we publish a response to your views, for every course unit. For example, here are the responses to your comments on Semester 2 of last year.

    Mitigating Circumstances

If you have any mitigating circumstances that have affected your Semester 1 teaching period, the deadline for submitting a mitigating circumstances form to SSO (Kilburn LF21) is Monday 16 January 2017. If you have any mitigating circumstances for the Semester 1 exam period, the deadline for submitting is Monday 30 January 2017. Please note that the School can only consider your circumstances if you have submitted a Mitigating Circumstances form by the deadlines given above.

    Girl Geeks Party

Manchester Girl Geeks are having their end-of-year party on Sunday 18 Dec. Everyone welcome – it’s free, but bring a dish.

    Making a Difference Awards 2017

The annual Making a Difference Awards for social responsibility are now open to receive entries, with a closing date of 1 February 2017.

The awards cover a wide range of contributions to the University’s social responsibility strategy, with categories including sustainability, public and community engagement, teaching and research impact on society, widening participation, social enterprise, volunteering, responsible processes and equality and diversity. Colleagues can nominate themselves or someone else for an award.

Previous winners and highly commended recipients state how receiving a Making a Difference Award has often helped develop their project, highlighted the impact of their work, provided well-deserved recognition to those involved and in some cases secured further resources.

The awards culminate in a high profile awards ceremony, hosted by the President and Vice-Chancellor in May 2017. This key event raises awareness of the many ways individuals and teams across the University make a real difference to the social and environmental wellbeing of our communities and wider society.

    • The deadline for entries is 1 February 2017.
    • Candidates can self-nominate or be nominated by a third party.
    • Individuals and teams can enter.

To read about the full range of categories visit the social responsibility website.
