EPSRC Digital Inclusion Cluster
Date: November 13th and 14th 2008
Location: Atlas rooms, Kilburn Building, School of Computer Science. Campus Map No: 39.
The EPSRC Digital Inclusion Cluster will be held at Manchester on Thursday 13th & Friday 14th November, and brings together a multi-disciplinary team with track records in developing computer systems for older and disabled people, and other digitally disenfranchised groups, and in developing methods to ensure the accessibility of I.T. systems. As members of the cluster the School hopes to make some lasting contributions to the aims of the cluster, which are to develop a number of themes which will be put to EPSRC for the future research needs for inclusion in the digital economy.
The consortiums objective is to raise the awareness of the importance of developing a Digital Economy which is truly inclusive, so that all citizens including older and disabled people, and other currently digitally disenfranchised groups benefit from the advantages of a Digital Economy. This will lead to a long term programme of research into access methods exemplar interfaces, usability guidelines, affordable solutions and interaction for older and disabled people and other digitally disenfranchised people.
Granted by the EPSRC (EP/G002118/1) as 'An Inclusive Digital Economy supporting Older and Disabled People and other Digitally Disenfranchised groups' the cluster is hosted at the University of Dundee with partners from IBM Watson Research Centre and the Royal National Institute For The visually impaired.
