Microsoft Recognise Manchester e-Science Contribution

Date: December 10th 2008

Excellent news reached us today from the 2008 Microsoft e-Science Workshop in Indianapolis, where last night Professor Carole Goble became the first ever recipient of Microsoft’s Jim Gray Award. The award is presented annually in memory of Jim Gray, Microsoft’s e-Science Group manager who went missing in early 2007 while sailing off the coast of San Francisco. It recognises Carole’s outstanding international research and development of the field of e-Science.

Carole, U.K. Director of the myGrid project, helped create Taverna, open source software that has transformed how scientists carry out-data intensive science.
