Paul Waring, a new PhD student, recently joins the HCW Lab. Paul is working on the topic `Automatically Identifying Social Change'.

Paul has a wide variety of interests - in September he finished an MA in Ancient World Studies, which was a slight departure from his main subject! Outside of academia, he has worked as a freelance IT consultant for the past six years and is currently the Managing Director of a company which he started to run his work through. He is also involved in environmental campaigning, as one of the people responsible for running Manchester Friends of the Earth and a member of Greenpeace and People & Planet, as well being on the council of the UK Unix User's Group (UKUUG) and a professional member of the BCS and the IET. Paul has lived in and around Manchester all his life and he can't see himself leaving any time soon as it's a fantastic place to be.
