Component Based Modelling (CBM) has attracted a fair degree of interest in recent years amongst both academics and practitioners. This presentation introduces a non-trivial example Component Model (CM), a core part of a real large-scale delivery programme. andoutlines the various purposes for which the CM is used. These include: - planning and estimating - requirements capture and mapping - solution outline, scoping and reviews - functional decomposition - frameworks and application code reuse - distributed development - model-driven code generation - release-based testing Based on this experience, this presentation then suggests some areas which might be of research interest, perhaps even as part of the IBM Partners Programme.
