Deep Search: Linking text with meaning

  • Speaker:   Prof  Jun'ichi Tsujii  (University of Manchester)
  • Host:   Mary McGee Wood

With an ever increasing amount of text accessible electronically, we have witnessed exponential growth of users of search engines and information retrieval systems. However, it is also the case that the number of users who are not satisfied with current systems is increasing. Those users need 'deep' search techniques based on meanings of text. In this talk, I will first introduce the activity of National Centre for Text Mining, which was recently established in Manchester, and then address issues in "deep" search. In particular, I will discuss how we can combine techniques in natural language processing with search engines. My current research in efficient techniques for deep parsing, domain adaptation of NLP tools, tool kits of text mining, etc. will also be discussed.
