Postgraduate Research Degrees

The research taking place within the School is incredibly diverse.

The School has four research divisions, collectively incorporating 10 individual research groups ranging from Artificial Intelligence to Performance Engineering, and is keen to receive applications from potential research students in all areas.

Although your application is through the School, you are basically applying for a place in a research group or with a particular supervisor. You therefore need to look through our research to find a suitable topic or potential supervisor.

As a research student you will become a fully integrated member of the research community within the School through regular contact with your supervisor and advisor and with other researchers within your area. For those new to research, the School provides a programme of taught courses on topics such as research methods, research planning and thesis writing.

There are Three research degrees:

The PhD is a three-year degree resulting in a substantial thesis. It often starts with an MPhil year.

The MPhil consists of one year of research culminating in an MPhil thesis.

The MEnt Master of Enterprise Computer Science combines masters level subject knowledge, sound business theory and the practical enterprise skills needed to apply that knowledge in a business context.
