Published: 06 August 2014

The Uni of Manchester now offers an exciting new degree in Human Computer Interaction

The School of Computer Science now offers a new and exciting opportunity for those interested not only in computer systems but also how they interact with human users: the BSc in Human Computer Interaction (HCI). This programme will be launched in September 2014.

What is HCI? HCI, often referred to as User Experience, is a rapidly evolving field of Computer Science concerned with the interaction between computer systems and human users. It spans topics and methods from various disciplines, including computer science, psychology and social science. The course will equip graduates with skills that are in high demand from industry, from technically complex software engineering and application development to qualitative research design & methods. The course includes the option of an Industrial Experience year, meaning year long placements with vetted companies.

An MEng is also available in this area, which builds upon the BSc foundations and provides graduates with a deep understanding of cross-disciplinary studies and HCI application areas.
