Responsible processes
We're committed to processes that ensure an education or career in computer science is available to everyone.
From encouraging women into a computer science career, to ensuring equal opportunities to everyone who studies and works with us, we work hard to make computer science accessible.

Women in Computer Science
We are dedicated to ensuring women in particular are engaged and have the opportunity to engage with computer science and consider it as a career and actively encourage women to join us.
There are an increasing number of ways women in computer science can network, and opportunities for girls to get excited or more confident about computer science.

Athena SWAN accreditation
The Athena SWAN Charter for women in science recognises and celebrates good employment practice for women working in science, engineering and technology (SET) in higher education and research.
The beliefs underpinning the Charter are:
- The advancement of science, engineering and technology (SET) is fundamental to quality of life across the globe.
- It is vitally important that women are adequately represented in what has traditionally been, and is still, a male-dominated area.
- Science cannot reach its full potential unless it can benefit from the talents of the whole population, and until women and men can benefit equally from the opportunities it affords.
The Department was awarded its first Bronze Award in 2014, and its second one in October 2017.
