Discover the advantages of the Manchester Leadership Programme.

Many of our academic courses offer industrial placements enabling our graduates to quickly find their feet in the world of employment. The Manchester Leadership Programme also boosts employability through a mix of taught academic modules and volunteering.

Employers look to Manchester when seeking the best talent. We're one of the most targeted universities in the UK by the nation's top graduate employers (The Graduate Market in 2017, High Flyers Research).

Explore the ways that you can recruit our graduates below:

Careers fair

The Industry Placement and Careers Fair is held annually on the lower-first floor of the Kilburn Building at The University of Manchester.

The fair, held annually in October, is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students who are looking to secure placements, internships and graduate positions. A select and limited group of employers is invited every year, especially those specifically seeking to recruit computer science graduates.

If you're interested in exhibiting at the fair, please get in touch with our industrial and business contact.

Industrial placements

We're always actively looking for companies who wish to take placement students for year-long or summer placements.

We offer a range of undergraduate courses which can be combined with industrial placements.

The Department of Computer Science students have, since the inception of these courses, shown themselves to be outstanding in the workplace. Recent innovations in teaching include a first year EBL (Enquiry Based Learning) group project, which has given the students a set of skills including effective team working, self-organisation and team management.

  • BSc courses - industrial placements on BSc degrees involve a placement between 9 and 14 months between the end of the second year of study and the start of the final year of study.
  • MEng courses - a placement is undertaken during the summer vacation between second and third year, and between third and final year. These placements will be for a minimum of 8 weeks and maximum of 12 weeks.

We endeavour to finalise placement opportunities by Easter, ready for placements to commence in June or July. However we encourage companies to get in touch about placement opportunities at any time.

  • provides an opportunity for members to keep up in touch by receiving the Industry Club newsletter;
  • includes an industrial advisory board which recommends content for some areas of the curriculum.
